What are the Benefits of Joining the Alliance?
The Alliance has a goal to improve personal and economic opportunities for all swimmers by elevating swimming into the era of modern sport and achieved by increasing the negotiating power for athletes competing in current events as well as creating new and innovative competitions where revenue will be shared with the athletes.
Over the last several months, 120 world-class swimmers from 31 different countries have formed the International Swimmers’ Alliance.
Today, we are honored to announce the inaugural Board of Directors.
The 10-member Board includes 6 currently active competitive swimmers elected by the swimming members. They are:
Lia Neal (USA)
Katinka Hosszu (HUN)
Ranomi Kromowidjojo (NED)
Brent Hayden (CAN)
Chad Le Clos (RSA)
Tom Shields (USA)
All swimming members have either a top 20 individual LCM world ranking or are under contract with an ISL team. Eleven-time Olympic medalist and former world record holder Matt Biondi will serve as the International Swimmers’ Alliance Board Chair.
World-class swimmers have been under-represented and, in turn, exploited by the Olympic business model.
The Alliance will be a platform to help elite competitive swimmers discuss and collaborate on a variety of issues impacting elite athletes collectively.
While the Alliance is not a union, the Alliance will seek to represent the many voices of the athletes to promote the sport. The ISA values gender equality and stands firmly against PEDs.
Additionally, the ISA is a non-boycott organization, as the swimmers believe that no one benefits from such action.
